Non percepiamo (più) la Cina come ‘an exemplary, not subversive, student in the classroom of global capitalism’, ma come un ex allievo esemplare che oggi ha raggiunto una posizione che permette di dettare le proprie regole in un numero crescente di campi, e dunque anche, a volte, inevitabilmente, una certa dose di sovversività. Questo implica fare uno sforzo analitico per svincolarsi tanto da una visione deterministica che identifichi le tecnologie digitali come motore primo del cambiamento sociale, quanto dalla convinzione che esse possano essere impiegate come mezzi neutri.
