Wilson Center – 21 October 2024

“Although both the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and the Italian Communist Party (PCI) advocated for “national roads to socialism” and shared concerns about Moscow’s influence over the international communist movement, the political and ideological dynamics of the Cold War fostered years of mutual hostility between the two parties.”

Leonardo Bruni and Enrico Fardella (ChinaMed, T.wai), along with Silvio Pons (Scuola Normale Superiore & Fondazione Gramsci), are authors of the blog post “Crisscrossing Roads to Socialism: China and the Italian Communist Party during the Cold War” for the Wilson Center’s Cold War International History Project.

Leonardo Bruni is Junior Research Fellow at T.wai and Project Manager of the ChinaMed Project. He is also a Doctoral Researcher in History at the European University Institute.
