While Moroccan media have consistently highlighted the project’s potential to attract foreign and especially Chinese capital, generate employment, and consolidate the Kingdom’s role in the emerging industries, Rabat must contend with growing European and American scrutiny of Chinese geoeconomic influence in the region.”
