[Review] The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank: China’s Multilateral Experiment

The China Quarterly (2025), 1-2

“Ten years have passed since the establishment of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). Headquartered in Beijing, it is the first Multilateral Development Bank to be designed and promoted by the PRC. This has generated suspicions in Washington and elsewhere about China’s intention to create an alternative to the World Bank and other existing international financial institutions. With 109 approved members, however, the AIIB has also become the second-largest MDB behind the World Bank, reflecting China’s growing ability to reshape the world order with new ideas and institutions that better align with Beijing’s national interests.”

Giuseppe Gabusi (T.wai & University of Turin) is the author of the book review of “The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank: China’s Multilateral Experiment”, published by The China Quarterly.
