“Occorre partire dal fatto che la Cina ha, e vuole investire, molte meno risorse degli Stati Uniti nel Mediterraneo allargato per alimentare la propria influenza. La Cina può investire, comprare petrolio, offrire aiuti sanitari e vendere il vaccino, ma gli Stati Uniti hanno una presenza molto più solida e radicata, ovviamente, in termini militari; e hanno molte meno remore (soprattutto con Trump) a schierarsi nelle dispute regionali”.
