Summer School: Engaging Conflict
Summer schools on conflict and conflict-related issues are mostly concentrated in Northern Europe, while in Italy courses on such topics are meant mainly as professionalizing tools aimed at non-academic audiences. Torino has a long-standing tradition of conflict-related studies, both in its University and in its military institutions, and for this reason it is the ideal candidate to fill up this void.
Training runs Monday to Friday, from 9.15am to 6pm. It features lectures, extensive Q&A sessions, roleplays and informal chats with some of the world’s best academics and experts sharing cutting-edge insights on their specific fields of expertise.
In 2012 the School will welcome the following faculty members: Mats Berdal (King’s College London), Christopher Coker (London School of Economics), Juan Diaz (CSSP), Elise Féron (University of Kent), AJR Groom (University of Kent), Roger MacGinty (University of St. Andrews), Neil Melvin (SIPRI), Sharon Wiharta (SIPRI).
Participants to the program are selected through an intensive and highly competitive process, strictly based on academic merit, professional achievements and individual potential. The working language of the School is English. Information are available online and constantly updated.
Applications are accepted as from April 11th 2012. Students may apply for several ZEROTASSE scholarships, waving tuition costs completely. Those who do not live in the Torino area can alternatively apply for the FREETORINO scholarships, covering tuition, accommodation and, partially, meals for the duration of their stay in Torino.
All information on the School, including the themes being treated in 2012, fees, and application procedures are provided at www.engagingconflict.it.
